Colonel rhodes iron man actor7/3/2023 ![]() ![]() That was the case in the Dark Knight trilogy. That's why it's never a good idea to replace a character: you'll often end up with a worse situation than if you wrote the character off completely. When Lisa Robin Kelly was booted from That 70's Show, they kept the Laurie Forman character going by hiring Christina Moore.Ĭhristina may be a good actress in her own right, but as Laurie Forman, she was no replacement for Lisa Robin Kelly.Ĭhristina tried, but the character fans enjoyed watching wasn't the same. Instead of ending when major cast members departed, creators hired new actors to fill new roles.Īlthough that's kind of a cheap way of keeping the show going, I'd prefer that to having an entirely new actor/actress play the same character. That's why shows like Two and a Half Men and C.S.I. Instead of having a new actor fill the same role, TV show and movie decision makers simply create a new character. It doesn't seem to happen as much these days. Personally, I hate it when Hollywood replaces actors and keeps the same role. Granted, they've had two movies to develop chemistry together, while Howard and Downey had just one. I suppose Cheadle and Downey do have a better chemistry. Personally, I could have gone either way. I kind of find that hard to believe, but it would have been interesting to hear that phone conversation when Downey did call Howard back three months later.Īs for his replacement? Terrence didn't say much about Don Cheadle. They came to me with the second and said, 'Look, we will pay you one-eighth of what we contractually had for you, because we think the second one will be successful with or without you.' And I called my friend - that I helped get the first job - and he didn't call me back for three months."Īpparently Downey wanted more money, so they pulled the money from Howard. "It was going to be a certain amount for the first one, a certain amount for the second one, a certain amount for the third. "We did a three-picture deal, so that means that you did the deal ahead of time," Howard said. ![]() I guess he and Downey had some kind of falling out. when it was time to re-up for the second one, (he) took the money that was supposed to go to me and pushed me out." He told host Andy Cohen: "It turns out that the person I helped become Iron Man. is the reason he got booted.more or less. The reason? Apparently it's Iron Man himself. He was on Watch What Happens Live and hinted at the reason he was replaced by Cheadle as Lt. They already have.Terrence Howard opened up about being replaced by Don Cheadle in the Iron Man movies. In fact, Downey also told MTV that he hopes they don’t “piss off the public” that made Iron Man a success. The last thing they should want is to upset the fans. If he wants Rhodey to be tougher, less soft-spoken, he should have instructed Howard to do so. So why couldn’t they bring everyone back? And if it was Howard’s performance, isn’t that Favreau’s fault? he is the director. A lot of fans seem upset that Terrance Howard was recast. It seems like this has become quite a big deal. It’s a little surprising to me that Downey is being so “pc” about it. Here’s what happens too: things happen and you wind up commenting on them before you’ve actually talked to people and it’s in poor taste.” ![]() It’s one of those situations where I still don’t quite know what happened or why. There’s all I’ll say because I haven’t talked to him yet…I’ve always admired Don (Cheadle). In an interview with MTV, he had this to say about the situation. Robert Downey Jr broke his silence on the subject. Why do I bring it up? Well, because until now, Favreau and Downey have kept quiet about this. His proposed pay cut was rumored to be 50 to 80 percent smaller. Upon hearing this, studio execs went to Howard to renegotiate the deal. So much so that when the writers sat down to begin the script for Iron Man 2, they dramatically reduced Howard’s role. There are also insiders saying director Jon Favreau was not pleased with his performance. And once the project fully came together, it was too late to renegotiate his deal.” “Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that was the highest paid. As for why Howard was replaced, Entertainment Weekly, Howard’s replacement was a money decision. Cheadle has been signed for multiple films, opening the possibility of a War Machine solo film. Terrance Howard out, Don Cheadle will replace him. The whispers got louder, and it has since been confirmed. It started with whispers two weeks ago that Terrance Howard was out as Rhodes. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a brief recap. As some of you may already know, the role of Col. ![]()
